Ty, the company that makes Beanie Babies, is honoring First Lady Michelle Obama’s wishes and dropping the names “Marvelous Malia” and “Sweet Sasha” from its Ty Girlz collection. CEO Ty Warner still maintains that the dolls weren’t intended to look like Malia and Sasha Obama. The dolls will be renamed Mariah and Sydney.

How interesting. I bet just the name change alone really plummets the sales. I wonder how the little girls felt about it…
I checked out this site to see what the toysellers were saying about the TY girlz dolls, soon-to-be-ex Malia and Sasha.

It’s interesting to note that there are five other dolls in the line that don’t look anything like the two new ex-Malia and Sasha dolls.
They were obviously created to cash in on the Obama Girls Miley Cyrus-type Hannah Montana fame.
I’m sure their sales got a big bump up from the negative controversy, sales they never would have seen with Mariah and Sydney dolls.
